Street Foods Collective (SFC)
The Street Foods Collective is a social enterprise project of the Bayshore Park Community Garden and Oven, that started its pilot year in January 2017.
Kickstarted with a United Way SPARK grant, and with support from the Pinecrest Queensway Community Health Centre, the Collective consists of 13 women operating out of Bayshore with the objective of producing and selling global street foods as part of this project. The social mission of the Collective is to make healthy, affordable and culturally diverse foods accessible to different neighborhoods in Ottawa, while offering a platform for the women in the community to acquire entrepreneurship skills and open up avenues for employment. The project had a successful run in the first year, with four markets where the members sold the food they prepared in a commercial kitchen. The SFC will also be launching some packaged food products in early 2018. |
